Thomas Keble is an Academy School and the Trustees are the Governors of the Academy Trust and oversee the strategic development of the school, supporting and advising the senior leadership team.  They meet at least five times a year as the Full Trust Board and review all aspects of the school’s work, and at least once a term within various committees, according to their particular expertise or interest, to focus on other specific areas.

Key functions of the Trust Board are to:

  • set the aims and objectives for the school in order to raise standards and secure the health, safety and well-being of pupils
  • set the policies that underpin those aims and objectives
  • set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
  • monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
  • be a source of challenge and support to the Headteacher
  • be accountable for the school’s strategic development.

Trustees’ Declaration of Pecuniary Interests – Declaration of Pecuniary Interests forms are completed annually by all Trustees.  No Trustee at Thomas Keble School has declared a Pecuniary Interest.

Our Trustees come from a wide variety of backgrounds and are either elected as Parent or Staff Trustees, or appointed as Academy Trustees or Members.

The Trustees’ committees consist of the following groups:

Student Welfare Committee

Nothing can be more important than that all children are properly cared for and work in an environment which allows them to succeed.  This committee is responsible amongst other topics for attendance, behaviour and all aspects of student support. Ralph Perry is the Chair of this committee and the Link Trustee for Safeguarding.

Curriculum Committee

The Curriculum Committee examines what the school teaches in all of its activities and the quality of education received by the children.  Our responsibilities include the analysis of examination results, provision of Special Needs and plans for new subjects.  Our Committee Chair is Yvonne Hawker and our dedicated SEN Trustee is Mary Beswick.

Personnel Committee

The school’s most valuable resource is its staff and this committee examines all aspects of our work.  Ralph Perry chairs the Personnel Committee, which discusses appointments, staff training and career development, and employment legislation.

Finance & Premises Committee

Chaired by Alex Norman, the Finance and Site & Premises Committee examines how the school uses its budget and how we can develop the site.  In recent years we have overseen the Catering Contract and building plans so that everybody can enjoy a safe, healthy and stimulating environment.

If you would like any further information on Governance or the Trust Board, please contact the Company Secretary at Thomas Keble School.  We are always interested in hearing from people who are able to offer their expertise and advice in the areas of Finance, Law, Public Relations and Human Resources.   In particular, we are seeking to enhance the Board by appointing two Trustees with expertise in the area of financial governance. Please contact the Company Secretary for further information.

We currently have five Members who oversee the Trust’s governance and maintain an awareness of the Trust’s business, but are not expected to attend regular Trust Board meetings.  Members meet with Trustees around twice a year at a Strategy meeting in July and at the Academy’s Annual General Meeting (held in December), and may hold Members’ only meetings on other occasions as appropriate.

Trustee Attendance at meetings throughout 2017-18 can be viewed here: Trustee Attendance 2017-2018
