Thomas Keble Students Celebrate Excellent GCSE Results!  

Students, staff and parents at Thomas Keble School in Eastcombe are celebrating an excellent set of results in 2017 with 69% of students achieving 5 or more GCSEs including English and Maths at grade ‘4’ or ‘C’ grade. This year sees an entirely new grading system being introduced with the new grade ‘4’ in English and Maths being equivalent to a grade C in all other subjects.   Headteacher, Julia Maunder said, “We are delighted at the level of consistency across all subject areas which has resulted in such pleasing outcomes for all of our students. We take great pride in being an inclusive comprehensive school and to see students across the full ability range achieve so well is testament to the commitment of our school community in supporting all students to achieve more than they ever thought possible.  The early indications are that our class of 2017 have performed very well indeed.  Over 80% of all grades awarded were at the ‘C / 4’ level which compares very favourably with the national figure of 66%, and over 20% of all grades being awarded at the very highest grade 7 – 9 (A / A* grades).”

Thomas Keble School is incredibly proud of the way our students have risen to the new, tougher exams.  13 students achieved an average of a grade ‘A’ / ‘7’ overall across all of their subject entries.  Students have continued to do well across a full range of subject areas. In English, 85% achieved a grade 4 or above in English, compared to 65% nationally, whilst in Maths, 75% achieved a grade 4 or above compared to 69% nationally.

Both English and Maths have achieved well above the national level of attainment with 72.3% of the 2017 cohort achieving a grade ‘4’ or above in both English and Maths GCSEs. This consistently high standard of attainment reflects some really outstanding individual achievements across all ability levels.

I would also like to acknowledge the hard work of staff and parents in supporting our young people throughout their time with us.”
