Please remember that absence from school can seriously disrupt your child’s continuity of learning. Not only do they miss the teaching provided on the days they are away, they are also less well prepared for lessons upon their return. There is a consequent risk of under-achievement, which together we must seek to avoid. Absence from school will only be authorised under exceptional circumstances.
School attendance is essential for successful achievement and therefore it follows that we should all do our best to maximise this. If a request is thought to be unavoidable, please write to the Headteacher with the best possible notice, using the correct form. On this form the criteria for such matters is clearly set out.
Only if these criteria are met will the Headteacher be able to consider authorising the request. Failure to abide by these legal expectations runs the risk of intervention by the Education Welfare Office and the possibility of a “Penalty Notice”.
