We currently study the AQA GCSE Music course

 The course focuses on listening, composing and performing, through the following areas of study:

  • Rhythm and Metre
  • Harmony and Tonality
  • Texture and Melody
  • Timbre and Dynamics
  • Structure and Form

and by exploring music from the following strands of learning:

  • The Western Classical Tradition
  • Popular Music of the 20th & 21st centuries
  • World Music

 

Controlled Assessment

Performance 40% – one solo and one ensemble performance

Composition 40% – two contrasting compositions, based on the Areas of Study

 

Exams

At the end of the course you will sit a listening exam worth 20% of your mark. You will be expected to respond to musical extracts based on the areas of study and strands of learning.
