Students following the Business and Communication Systems course will look at various aspects of running a business, with particular attention to the demands of IT in industry. If you’re thinking of setting up your own business when you’re older then this is the course for you!
Students will look at how computers and information technology can support the day-to-day functioning of a business with software such as spreadsheets, and also how specific tasks can be approached using a variety of word processing, DTP, database or presentation software. They will develop their understanding of finance, budgeting, and management. They will develop skills in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, graphics, presentation and web authoring software.
- written exam (1 hour) worth 40%
- computer-based exam (1.5 hours) worth 35%
- controlled assessment piece, worth 25%
Students will research and have preparation time for the controlled assessment, which is based on a business scenario. They then produce a final piece under controlled conditions ICT and the world of work
BCS and the World of Work:
The course will provide excellent preparation for further study and employment – through exploring and suggesting improvements to communication systems within a business environment.
